RETURNING HOME

For the first time in my life I had spent an entire summer away from my home town
and my friends. Of course I should be thrilled, as I was, to finally be on my way home.
When I arrived at my front door some spirit of impudence seized me and when no answer
came to my first ring on the door bell I gave it a long vicious punch to let Mother know I
was home. Need I describe that meeting? I think not. That evening a close friend, Mrs.
Schouten was to sing at the band concert. What would be more fun than to hear her and
to see her surprise when I'd walk up and present myself?

After dashing down the alley to say, "Hi," to a pal I started for the park.
